50mW Green Laser Pointer

This is a very powerful laser pointer with an output range of over six miles considering that it is small enough to fit into your pocket.

It has power enough to be able to burn through black electrical tape so it needs to be handled with care. To point this indiscriminately at people or animals would be lunacy.

I read a comment from a person who uses laser pointers on a regular basis, his comment on the 50mW laser point was ‘fun till you’re blind’. I don’t really know if this indicates that constant use of a 50mW output pointer would damage your eyes, but I think that with the appropriate protective glasses you would be OK.

Unfortunately people who love having these powerful lasers are not as careful as they might be in wearing safety glasses. Prolonged exposure to this output of green laser beams can cause damage to the vision.

It is of perfect strength to be useful for outdoor trekking or exploring. Structural engineers would find it extremely useful I am sure, plus law enforcement personnel. 50mW is known as ‘military grade’ and usually is built to withstand all weather conditions.

It is not recommended that a laser with an output of over 5mW be used as a pointer in educational or business situation, you just don’t need power more than 5mW for this purpose.

Many people think that these more powerful laser pointers should be banned but that would be impossible now because they are used in so many areas such as astronomical, medical, military, laboratory and for many other legitimate purposes.

Just a short time ago in 2007 the FBI caught a girl pointing a laser at an aircraft which was in use. Even though manufacturers always point out safety measures for use, many people just ignore these suggestions and act totally irresponsibly regardless of any danger they might cause other people. This is totally unacceptable and I do believe that anyone caught using their laser pointer in a dangerous manner should be made to pay in some way.

In California it is a misdemeanor to shine a laser pointer at a person who then feels they are at risk. Also in California it is a felony to shine at an aircraft, so be warned!

Having said that it would be a pity to deprive genuinely careful users of their fun. Perhaps careful users could keep an eye on others so that they should not get a bad name because of the stupid few.
